Sensational day for Kodiak!

Show Champion Belatarr Kodiak’s amazing run continued with a tremendously exciting day at the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Club of Great Britain Championship where he was awarded his 5th CC and then an incredible Best in Show under the hugely experienced Hungarian international Vizsla judge, Dr Zsuzsanna Balogh.

Having already won Best in Show at the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Association Championship, Kodi is now the reigning champion across both UK breed clubs!

The icing on the cake saw Kodi awarded both the Krugerand Trophy for Top Show Puppy and the Haunsperg Bronze for Top Show Male of 2023 at the HWVCGB annual awards at the Championship show.

Kodi has had an incredible start to the show year, having won 3 of the last 4 CC’s awarded in the breed – a remarkable achievement, given that he is not yet even 2 years of age. Huge congratulations, as ever, go to Jenny & David, and we excitedly await the next chapter in young Kodi’s adventures in the show ring!

Big Win at Manchester for Kodiak.

After becoming a Show Champion at the final show on 2023, Belatarr Kodiak started off the new year in tremendous style at the first Champ show of 2024, the Manchester Championship.

Under breed specialist Chris Guest he again won Best dog, collecting his 4th CC in the process, and then went on to take Best of Breed – his first Championship BOB – earning him the privilege of representing the breed in the main Gundog ring for the first time, and all at the tender age of 22 months!

“1st CC and BOB: Belatarr Kodiak…..the standard calls for everything in moderation and this is what you got with this chap. Compact and workmanlike, yet still masculine in outlook.
Harsh, tight coat of russet. Nicely proportioned head, with expressive eyes of good colour. Clean through neck and throat, to well boned and straight forelimbs. Decent forechest, good heart and lung room. Firm topline, strong loin flowed into good quarters. Moved soundly coming and going and in profile, on good feet, to nitpick, would have liked a bit more oomph, but as always extremely well handled by his owner.”

Christine Guest

It’s tremendously exciting to watch Kodi’s progress in the show ring and we are certain that another great year lies ahead of him, Jenny & David in ’24.

Belatarr Kodiak becomes a Show Champion!!

Completing an already sensational and very memorable year, and at the age of just 20 months, young Kodi won Best Dog and his all-important 3rd Challenge Certificate from a big entry of HWV’s under judge Betty Smith at the LKA Championship:

In so doing, Kodi becomes the youngest Belatarr Show Champion and we are certain that many more wins lie ahead of him too.

Huge congratulations to David & Jenny for their hard work and for crowning another Champion!

Chaucer becomes a Champion!

A huge and very exciting day for Belatarr at the Richmond Championship show, under breed specialist judge Chris Schofield. At the age of 4, Belatarr America (Chaucer) was awarded Best Dog and his third Challenge Certificate, making him a new Show Champion (subject to Kennel Club confirmation).

“Loved this boy for his superb movement, typical & masculine head and a lovely expressive eye. Strong neck leading into well placed shoulders, deep chest with a good spring of ribs, strong loin & excellent rear angulation. Free striding sound mover. Handled well and his wiry coat was presented in tiptop condition. DCC”

Christine Schofield

Massive congratulations to Irene for her fantastic achievement with Chaucer. He was a lockdown puppy, and so missed out on almost 2 years of shows, making this achievement all the most special. We couldn’t be more proud!

Chaucer wins at Windsor.

Continuing our successful Summer show round, Belatarr America (Chaucer) collected another lovely win at the Windsor Championship show. Breed specialist judge Ilex Whiting awarded him Best Dog and his second Challenge Certificate, just 3 days short of his fourth birthday.

Alone (in his class) but deserving winner. Solid dog of correct construction, slightly longer than high and has matured into a good looking male with a harsh wire coat. Tight elbows, strong bone, standing on good feet. Sufficient depth of brisket and forchest, ribbing carried well back to short loin. Moved out well keeping a good topline and tail carriage. Pleased to award him CC.”

Big congratulations to Irene and the ever-happy Chaucer on their weekend win and for joining the 2-CC club!

Sensational Day at the HWVA Championship!

Hosted at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern on a very hot and humid Sunday, the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Association Championship show and accompanying Open Show proved to be one of the very best and most memorable days in the history of Belatarr!

The Championship show is generally the largest gathering of the breed anywhere in the world, and this year was judged by Rachel Thompson, not just a breed expert, but one of the real doyennes of the HWV in the UK.

Fresh from winning his first CC just 2 weeks earlier and still only 13 months of age, Belatarr Kodiak (Kodi) scored a stunning win, taking 1st Junior Dog and then being named Best Dog, collecting his second CC in the process.

But that was just the start! His mother, our Belatarr Asia (Aja) was awarded 1st Limit Bitch and then took Best Bitch, winning her first ever CC. Mother and son then went head to head, with Kodi awarded Best in Show and Aja Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex.

Kodiak and Aja, Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show.

It is rare indeed to “do the double” by scooping both CC awards at a major Champ Show and this was all the more special given the event and the judge.

Belatarr Asia

“Lovely, feminine and balanced throughout. Pleasing head with smooth ear and dark eye.Strong neck flowing into good, well-angled shoulder and upper arm. Depth of chest and good couplings. Strong rear, used to advantage on the move, covering her ground with ease. BCC, BOS, RBIS.
Rachel Thompson

But there was even more to come!

Following the Championship was the HWVA Open show judged by Gundog expert Mike Masters and Kodi wowed us once more by winning Best Dog again! Alongside him was his uncle, Belatarr Jupiter, who was named Reserve Best Dog and then his mother, Aja, awarded Reserve Best Bitch to complete the winning trio. Finally, Kodi completed his day by scoring Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex.

BETATARR KODIAK
“Impressive young dog, couldn’t take my eyes off him, he dominated my mind whilst judging the males and I couldn’t find anything to beat him in the later classes. He has a most appealing masculine, shapely head with lively and intelligent expression, clean, slightly arched neck. Well-constructed front assembly with good depth to brisket. Moderately well sprung in ribs that extended well back to short loin, strong quarters with good width over the rear. A rich russet harsh wire jacket completed the picture. Moved sound holding a firm shape in profile, covering the ground with ease. Best Dog & RBIS

BELATARR ASIA

“A mature bitch who appeals greatly for breed type, balance and construction throughout. I loved her head and that lively, intelligent expression. Her front has desired lay back of shoulder, return of upper arm and depth to brisket, hindquarters to match which enabled her to drive and reach covering the ground with ease holding a level topline. She also captivated my heart and pushed the (Best Bitch) Junior all the way.

Mike Masters

Huge congratulations to Jenny and David for their stellar success with young Kodi, now just 1 win away from being a Show Champion!

A proud Kodi with his wins!

Kodiak wins his first CC!

A fantastic day at the Bath Championship show, where breed specialist judge Peter Harper awarded Belatarr Kodiak (Kodi) 1st Junior dog and then Best Dog, collecting his first Challenge Certificate at the tender age of just 13 months!

To add to the day’s sucesses, Kodi’s uncle, Belatarr Jupiter (Luka), was then awarded the Reserve Dog CC!

DCC Belatarr Kodiak (Spillane) A harsh tight coat of good colour. Masculine head of clean outline onto a strong neck of moderate length and broad but well laid shoulders. Strong bone and well bodied throughout. Strong feet and straight front. A good width of body from withers to hindquarters. Moved with power and balance. A striking young dog.

RDCC Belatarr Jupiter (Spillane) A deep harsh coat. Well defined mature head. Strong neck of good length onto good shoulders. Deep chest. Straight front. Well ribbed. Strong hindquarters. Moved with balanced measured gait.

Peter Harper

Huge congratulations to Jenny and David for achieving a double with their Belatarr Boys – certainly a day to remember.

Kodiak wins at his Debut Show.

Young Belatarr Kodiak made his show debut at the age of 6 months and 1 week at the Midland Counties Championship and scored a very exciting win under breed specialist judge Keeley Newman-Jones, taking 1st Minor Puppy Dog, Best Puppy Dog and then Best Puppy, beating 11 other HWV puppies (all of whom were older and more experienced than him!) in the process.

What a start to the day, a super class of pups. 1st Spillane’s Belatarr Kodiak 6mth, first time out and enjoying himself. So much to like about this dog, from head to toe I wrote in my notes. Presented a lovely outline, already his head was masculine with moderate breadth of skull. A lovely expression, eye and ear set. He was the best on the move and this is due to his wonderful front and rear angulation. A good length of upper arm and well-laid shoulders. This was balanced with moderate rear angulation. I liked his body proportions, especially short couplings and length of loin. Super feet. His coat is correct and will only improve over time. Everything needs to mature and his movement become tighter but he was exactly as expected a 6-month-old should be and I hope has a good future ahead of him. BPD and BPIB

Keeley Newman-Jones

His mother, our own Belatarr Asia, was also awarded 1st Limit Bitch and, by doing so, earned her Kennel Club Stud Book Number, the 10th Belatarr to achieve this accolade, so a memorable day all around!

A beautiful feminine bitch with many qualities. Lovely front and rear angulation, liked her stifle and second thigh. I would prefer her to have a little more depth to her chest. Well muscled in the neck and good spring to her ribs. Presented in wonderful coat and condition. Held her topline on the move and presented a balanced picture of front reach and drive. Considered for the RCC.” Keeley Newman-Jones

Big congratulations to Jenny & David – we’re very much looking forward to eagerly following young Kodi’s ongoing adventures in the show ring.

A huge week for Chaucer!

Young Belatarr America (Chaucer) was just 7 months old when the pandemic lockdown meant that dog showing was suspended for a long period of time. As a result, he missed his entire showing puppyhood and has only recently started getting out and about to shows as a young adult. Having just turned 3 years old in July of this year he has really come together and found his stride and Irene’s hard work and patience have been rewarded with big back-to-back Championship wins this week.

First up was the Bournemouth Championship show where judge Di Arrowsmith awarded Chaucer with his first Reserve Dog CC, earning him his Stud Book Number at the same time.

But bigger things were to come just 4 days later at the Welsh Kennel Club Championship where Chaucer went one better and came from winning 1st Limit Dog (the biggest and most competitive class of the day) to be awarded his first Best Dog CC under judge David Shields.

Chaucer, having his critique written.

Huge congratulations again go to Irene for these fantastic results and for the opening of this very exciting new chapter in both Chaucer and Belatarr’s show history!
