Summer Show Results Roundup.

When we last updated, Show Champion Belatarr Kodiak had just collected his 14th Challenge Certificate. As it turns out, he was just getting warmed up, and the subsequent round of Championship shows have seen him collect another 5 CC’s in 5 months. This brings him to the current, and frankly, extraordinary total of 19 – already the fourth highest in breed history, and he’s still only 3 years old!!

His recent CC wins and judges were as follows:

26th April – WELKS – Shaun Layton

9th May – The National Championship – Ashley Reid (Australia)

21st June – Blackpool Championship – Keeley Newman-Jones

6th July – Boston Championship – Blake Crocker

3rd August – National Gundog Championship – Jean Byrne

Kodi also won Best Dog at the HWVGCB Open Show on 6th July under judge Alice Turnbull and even picked up Reserve (along with £10 prize money) in the Champion Stakes at National Gundog.

“A well-built, proportionate dog with excellent bone and substance. Attractive masculine head, eye colour matching his russet harsh jacket with a good undercoat. Well muscled shoulders and correct straight front, well developed in chest and firm level topline. He has moderate rear angulation strong loin and correct tailset. One of the best movers today with a steady ground covering gait and powerful rear driving action. Shows great teamwork with his handler and was a deserving CC winner and my BOB. Well done.”

Jean Byrne – National Gundog Championship

Meanwhile, his uncle, Luka, Belatarr Jupiter, has also had a good season, including taking another Reserve CC at the Boston Championship and Best Veteran in Breed at the Paignton Championship, under judge Jill Peak. Luka also picked up a lovely Best Veteran in Show under Alice Turnbull at the HWVCGB Open.

Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Club of Great Britain 2025 Championship.

This year’s HWVCGB Championship was judged by Carole Coode, one of the most respected Gundog judges in the country, and proved to be another great day for young Show Champion Belatarr Kodiak. Kodi very memorably won Best In Show at the 2024 championship, so returned as the defending champion, and he won big again this year, being awarded Best Dog – collecting his 14th CC in the process – and then going Reserve Best in Show.

“Nearly 3 years old, good strong masculine dog, not
overdone good masculine head, with good jaw, bite, nose, kind eye, good furnishings, set
on strong neck let into well made forequarters, decent through the ribs, topline, loin, tailset
& carriage, well muscled rear with good 1st & 2nd thigh and low hocks, moving out soundly
on good legs and feet, coat had good hard feel to it. My Dog CC and Reserve Best in Show.”

Carole Coode

The HWVCGB Annual Awards followed, and Kodi shone again, winning trophies for Top Show Male and Top Show HWV of 2024:

A wonderful conclusion to another super day for Kodi, Jenny & David – huge congratulations, once again!

Kodi – HWVA Best in Show.

A super day for Sh Ch Belatarr Kodiak at this year’s Hungarian Wirehaired Vizlsa Association Open show, winning Best Dog and then going Best in Show under judge Deborah Hamlyn.

This masculine chap has an outline that screams HWV! He has correct head proportions with his kind inquisitive eye and nose pigment complimenting his coat colour. He has brows, beard and facial furninshings giving an almost square appearance to a nice big nose. Strong muscular neck and pleasing forechest that drops nicely to hand. Good depth of chest to just below close fitting elbows. He is ribbed well back, short coupled with level top line to well developed thighs. He has a moderate sweep of stifle with strong hocks over tight feet. Powered with ease around the ring. BD, BIS “

Kodi is joint Top Dog of 2024!

The final Championship show of the year marked an incredible end to an extraordinary year for Jenny, David and Show Champion Belatarr Kodiak.

At today’s LKA Championship Gundog specialist judge Colin Woodward awarded Kodi his 9th CC of the year, his 12th in total.

“DCC. classic head with lovely proportions, good eye shape and colour giving a lovely expression, strong muscular neck of good length, shoulders well laid back, deep brisket & elbows close to body, well off for bone standing on nicely arched tight feet, clean in outline showing firm topline and gentle slope to croup, well made rear angulation, hocks well let down, lovely harsh wire coat, moved soundly and true with good drive keeping his shape at all times.”

Colin Woodward

In so doing Kodi collected 1 extra point in what has, all year long, been a nail-biting back-and-forth competition for the honour of being awarded Top Show Dog of 2024. That 1 point pulled Kodi to the top of the leaderboard for the year – truly a one-in-a-lifetime accomplishment and the pinnacle of achievement for any show dog.

Still only 2 years old, and undoubtedly with many more exciting wins in his future, Kodi has been a dream come true for me as a breeder. We are incredibly grateful for all of the hard work that Jenny & David have put in throughout the year and are immensely proud of their journey of success with young Kodi.

Kodi wins his 10th CC!

In the midst of all the puppy shenanigans, Show Champion Belatarr Kodiak won a superb victory at the Darlington Championship, becoming only the second Belatarr show dog (and much the youngest) to reach double figures of Challenge Certificates.

Under breed specialist judge, Maxine Munday, Kodi scored his 7th CC of the year and his 10th in total, before going on to be awarded Best of Breed, his 4th Champ Show BOB of 2024.

“Such a worthy Champion, he has improved so much since I last judged him. So masculine, robust but moderate in all the right measure! Love his medium size so well balanced, everything flows, excels in shoulder placement, strong in frame with well-developed muscled thighs giving a powerful far reaching stride, a picture stacked & moving, I do like a horizontal tail carriage but very few in the breed, especially males, have it. Handled to perfection, pleased to award him CC & BOB.”

Maxine Munday

Congratulations, as ever, to David & Jenny – what an exciting week this has been!

Kodiak wins his first CC!

A fantastic day at the Bath Championship show, where breed specialist judge Peter Harper awarded Belatarr Kodiak (Kodi) 1st Junior dog and then Best Dog, collecting his first Challenge Certificate at the tender age of just 13 months!

To add to the day’s sucesses, Kodi’s uncle, Belatarr Jupiter (Luka), was then awarded the Reserve Dog CC!

DCC Belatarr Kodiak (Spillane) A harsh tight coat of good colour. Masculine head of clean outline onto a strong neck of moderate length and broad but well laid shoulders. Strong bone and well bodied throughout. Strong feet and straight front. A good width of body from withers to hindquarters. Moved with power and balance. A striking young dog.

RDCC Belatarr Jupiter (Spillane) A deep harsh coat. Well defined mature head. Strong neck of good length onto good shoulders. Deep chest. Straight front. Well ribbed. Strong hindquarters. Moved with balanced measured gait.

Kodiak wins at his Debut Show.

Young Belatarr Kodiak made his show debut at the age of 6 months and 1 week at the Midland Counties Championship and scored a very exciting win under breed specialist judge Keeley Newman-Jones, taking 1st Minor Puppy Dog, Best Puppy Dog and then Best Puppy, beating 11 other HWV puppies (all of whom were older and more experienced than him!) in the process.

What a start to the day, a super class of pups. 1st Spillane’s Belatarr Kodiak 6mth, first time out and enjoying himself. So much to like about this dog, from head to toe I wrote in my notes. Presented a lovely outline, already his head was masculine with moderate breadth of skull. A lovely expression, eye and ear set. He was the best on the move and this is due to his wonderful front and rear angulation. A good length of upper arm and well-laid shoulders. This was balanced with moderate rear angulation. I liked his body proportions, especially short couplings and length of loin. Super feet. His coat is correct and will only improve over time. Everything needs to mature and his movement become tighter but he was exactly as expected a 6-month-old should be and I hope has a good future ahead of him. BPD and BPIB

Keeley Newman-Jones

His mother, our own Belatarr Asia, was also awarded 1st Limit Bitch and, by doing so, earned her Kennel Club Stud Book Number, the 10th Belatarr to achieve this accolade, so a memorable day all around!

A beautiful feminine bitch with many qualities. Lovely front and rear angulation, liked her stifle and second thigh. I would prefer her to have a little more depth to her chest. Well muscled in the neck and good spring to her ribs. Presented in wonderful coat and condition. Held her topline on the move and presented a balanced picture of front reach and drive. Considered for the RCC.” Keeley Newman-Jones

Big congratulations to Jenny & David – we’re very much looking forward to eagerly following young Kodi’s ongoing adventures in the show ring.
