Belatarr Brothers Win the Championship Double!

Yesterday’s Three Counties Championship proved to be a fantastic and truly memorable day for the Belatarr clan. On what proved to be a very hot, sunny day, and from an impressive entry for breed specialist judge Chris Guest, Belatarr Hercules won 1st Limit Dog and the Best Dog CC along with his first ever Championship Show Best of Breed whilst his brother Belatarr Charlie Parker ShCM scored 1st Open Dog and was awarded the Reserve Dog CC (his third) – an incredible double win that has only rarely been achieved in our breed.

The critiques for the boys were as follows:

Belatarr Hercules, at 3 years of age he is just coming into his own for me. Clean outline, balanced & comfortable over his ground. Well up to size, but he carries it so well & is without lumber. Strong bone, but no coarseness. Good depth to his chest, neat & tidy at elbow, firm topline & correct belly line to strong quarters which he moved off with ease. Has a beautifully proportioned head, kind yet dignified expression which gave him the CC over his brother. Put down in the best possible order, as was his brother, excellent wiry jacket, to be critical could have had more depth to his coat.

Belatarr Charlie Parker, so similar to his sibling that took the CC, but isn’t as deep in chest & is shorter over the loin. Hands moved easily over this boy, well laid shoulders, firm topline, correct belly line & good quarters. Super head & expression. Best of coats, his owner is to be commended for putting two dogs into the ring in the best of condition in both coat & musculature. RCC.”

Not to be left out the youngsters did well too, with Belatarr North by Northwest 1st Junior Dog, his brother Belatarr Vertigo 2nd Junior Dog and their sister Belatarr Thirtynine Steps taking 1st Junior Bitch.

Huge congratulations go to Jenny & David on the double win for their beautiful boys who were presented in typically immaculate condition and were thrilling to watch in the ring. Herc only moved up into Limit a few months ago, and has already won three Championship Show Best Dog awards this year (two in the last week alone!) together with his all important first CC. We couldn’t be more proud of the boys and more delighted for Jenny & David – what a team they have all become together!

Great weekend for Herc.

An absolutely superb weekend in the show ring(s) for Belatarr Hercules – Saturday saw him take 1st Open HWV and Best of Breed under Gundog judge Garry Golder before being awarded Group 3 in a very large Gundog Group under judge Mr L. Chambers, who also gave Herc’s big brother Charlie Parker 1st Open AV Gundog in another very large class.

The following day was the Southern Counties Championship and Herc scored again, taking 1st Limit Dog and then beating his older brother (amongst others) to be awarded Best Dog under judge Rob Suchett-Kaye:

North – Top Puppy of the year.

Young Belatarr North by Northwest had a tremendously successful first year in the show ring, the highlight of which was undoubtedly his Puppy Group 2 placing at the South Wales Kennel Association Championship.

We were absolutely delighted to hear this week that North is the HWVA top scoring Dog Puppy of 2015, winning the Leiborschy Tankard, and, like his mother Phoenix before him, he was also awarded Top Show Puppy of the year for 2015, wining him the Leiborschy Flask at the HWVA Annual Awards.

Billie was also 2nd highest scoring show bitch of 2015, with her brother Charlie 3rd highest scoring show dog of the year – great acknowledgment for everyone’s hard work and top results through the year!

Django: Best Dog at WELKS.

Belatarr Django Reinhardt ShCM hasn’t been out to a Championship show for 23 months – his last was when he won the Dog CC at the National Championship in 2014 – but he returned to the ring in style yesterday, and also thoroughly enjoyed himself, picking up 1st Open Dog and then Best Dog under breed specialist Ilex Whiting at the West of England Ladies Kennel Society Championship.

Django awards WELKS 2016

Technically this was also Django’s third Championship ‘Best Dog’ award in a row, from his only three entries in Open Dog, as he also picked up the same award at his first ever Open Dog class back at the Boston Championship, prior to the National…just a rather long gap in between his second and third outings!

Needless to say we are as proud of ever of our lovely boy’s achievements and are delighted to have him back out in the ring this year alongside his multi-award winning litter brother and sister, Charlie Parker & Billie.

Billie goes BEST IN SHOW at the HWVA Championship…again!

A simply amazing day for Belatarr at yesterday’s HWVA Championship – the biggest annual gathering of the breed anywhere in the world:

Junior Dog
1st – Belatarr Vertigo
2nd – Belatarr North By Northwest

Belatarr Vertigo.

Belatarr North by Northwest.

Belatarr North by Northwest.

1. Ryan’s Belatarr Vertigo, won by a head! Loved his classic head & expression with a lovely eye & well set & carried ears, good neck & shoulders, lovely profile movement really using his sound hindquarters & well made forequarters, he is balanced & a lovely type, a good size, well boned, excellent coat in tip-top condition with lovely muscletone; 2. Collier’s Belatarr North By Northwest, well boned & bodied youngster who still has his puppy head on!  Correct neck & shoulders, still has his old jacket on but his new coat is coming through, lovely topline & tailset, he is balanced with good muscletone but oh what a handful for his owner, when he settles, nothing should stop him. Today beaten by his brother, I reckon these two will have many a battle in the future.

Graduate Dog & Special Working Dog
1st – Belatarr Sculptor

Not quite the head I was looking for but his overall balance & free movement took the class, good coloured & correct shaped eye, good earset & carriage, in lovely coat & condition, he is well muscled with the correct hindquarters, topline & tailset, good neck & strong forequarters, steady up & back but excellent head carriage & tailset carriage in profile.

Limit Dog
1st – Belatarr Hercules

Very balanced dog of a lovely type, excellent masculine head & expression, good neck & shoulders, good forechest, lovely topline & tailset, good depth of chest, in excellent coat & condition with a well muscled hindquarters, he is quality, he kept a strong topline set up & moving & his profile movement was a joy to see, showed well to win a good class.”

No wonder I wrote nice type, it is yet another littermate to the JD 1 & 2! Feminine head & expression with a lovely eye, good neck & shoulders, lovely topline & tailset, she is balanced of a good size & outline, nice depth of chest, moved soundly on well boned legs & feet, well muscled hindquarters, excellent coat of the correct texture.

Belatarr Mahalia Jackson ShCM – Best in Show

I make no secret of the fact that I have liked this bitch before. This is the third time I judged her, first time she wasn’t ready, second time she was the best bitch but boy look at her now!  Now the finished package and am very surprised that she is still wanting her third CC. So very feminine in outline & outlook, such a pretty head & expression, I love her type, she is balanced & quality & is everything I want in a Hungarian Wirehaired bitch. She moved so true on well boned legs & feet, excellent neck & shoulders, strong topline & well set tail, good depth of chest, moved with ease & style covering the ground with an excellent head carriage & tailset, the bonus is that she has an excellent coat of the correct harshness & a beard, not an overlarge one, as I am know to prefer less, but just enough for perfection, her muscletone just gleamed on a sunny day, even though we were inside, when the sun caught her going round in profile, it completed the picture. Thrilled to give her the CC & BIS

Pam Blay

Absolutely thrilled for Vivien, Marie, Jenny & David and particularly Irene for Billie’s 2nd CC – Billie is also the only dog ever to have twice won Best in Show at the HWVA Champ Show!

Thank you so very much to judge Pam Blay for thinking so highly of the Belatarr clan – it means the world to us – these results are all I could ever have wished for, and make me so proud of everyone’s achievements – more pics to follow!

Charlie scores another Best in Show!

A great day was had yesterday at the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Club of Great Britain’s annual show – a lovely, friendly show which was well organised and very well catered, as ever!

Th 5 Belatarr dogs in attendance all acquitted themselves very well indeed, scoring a fantastic 4 x 1st places and 1 x 2nd place between them:

1st Junior Dog was Belatarr North by Northwest (sadly no picture of North this time….)

Belatarr Boys Triumph at Manchester Championship.

The second Championship show of the year was held at a snowbound, deep-frozen Staffordshire County showground, but happily we were immune to the cold in the big and well-heated main hall and enjoyed the huge indoor rings, which must surely rank as the best anywhere on the show circuit.  The Wires were presided over by the vastly experienced visiting Finnish judge, Kari Jarvinen, and this was most definitely a day for our boys, with Belatarr’s taking 1st place in all three of the classes in which they were competing.

First up 11 month old Belatarr North By Northwest took 1st Puppy Dog, from an entry of 6, then Belatarr Hercules headed up a classy entry of 7 males in Post Graduate Dog, whilst his big brother, Belatarr Charlie Parker, was awarded a memorable 1st Open Dog, beating both of the breed male CC record holders in the process.

Charlie took Best Dog at Boston, the first Champ Show of 2016, but it was his brother Herc who really shone today and, following his two reserve CC’s in 2015, he stepped up another gear to win his first ever Championship Show Best Dog. Fabulous!

Special mention must also go to Marie and her lovely baby Matilda, Belatarr Thirtynine Steps, who, after a very intensive crash-course in ringcraft training over the last few months, were awarded 3rd from an entry of 8 in Puppy Bitch and another super 3rd in Junior Bitch at only their second ever show – there will be many more awards to come, of that we have no doubt!

Charlie’s Triple Triumphs

A fabulous end to 2015 and an equally great start to 2016 for Belatarr Charlie Parker, with 3 big achievements in the space of less than 10 days.

Starting at the Luton Canine Association show, on 30th Dec, Charlie won 1st Open and Best Of Breed (with his younger brother Hercules Reserve BOB) under judge Martin Stone – a nice win in it’s own right, and Charlie’s 49th 1st place too, but crucially the point gained from this particular win meant that Charlie also qualified for his Kennel Club Show Certificate of Merit, an award than only a small handful of HWV’s have ever managed to achieve.

This also means that ALL FOUR of the show dogs from our first litter have now qualified for their ShCM. Belatarr already held the record for the most HWV’s (i.e. 3) from one litter to have been awarded the ShCM, but with Charlie joining his brothers Belatarr Django Reinhardt ShCM, Belatarr Dizzy Gillespie ShCM and sister Belatarr Mahalia Jackson ShCM, this is a new record for the breed which is unlikely to be beaten anytime in the near future.

Then, just 4 days later at the Dukeries Gundog Show, judge Irene Glen awarded Charlie his 50th 1st place and Best of Breed (with Herc once again taking Reserve BOB), but this proved to be only the start for him as Jenny, David & Charlie together braved the cold and wet conditions to take on the 27 other Gundog Best of Breeds presided over by judge Isobel Key…and were awarded a fabulous BEST IN SHOW!

The boys super critiques were:

“Belatarr Hercules, nicely put together dog with a lovely head & expression with correct height to length ratio. Lovely substance & depth with a good lay of shoulder. Well boned, correct coat, level topline with good width of thigh. Moved well. RBOB.”

“Belatarr Charlie Parker, a quality dog from any angle with excellent conformation throughout. Correct height to length ratio with a balanced masculine head. Best of neck & shoulders. Lovely depth & substance with plenty of heartroom & a good spring of rib. Firm topline which he keeps on the move, strong well developed quarters. Moved with lovely reach & drive. Such a sound positive mover. BOB & delighted to see him go BIS.”

Irene Glen

Not ones to rest on their laurels, Charlie & brother Herc were out in action again on 8th Jan at the first Championship show of the year, under judge Shaun Layton at Boston, where Hercules was awarded 1st Post Graduate Dog and Reserve Best Dog with big brother Charlie taking 1st Open Dog, Best Dog and Reserve Best of Breed.

All in all a magnificent set of results and testament, once again, to all of Jenny & David’s work and dedication to their lovely boys.
