Kodi is joint Top Dog of 2024!
The final Championship show of the year marked an incredible end to an extraordinary year for Jenny, David and Show Champion Belatarr Kodiak.
At today’s LKA Championship Gundog specialist judge Colin Woodward awarded Kodi his 9th CC of the year, his 12th in total.
“DCC. classic head with lovely proportions, good eye shape and colour giving a lovely expression, strong muscular neck of good length, shoulders well laid back, deep brisket & elbows close to body, well off for bone standing on nicely arched tight feet, clean in outline showing firm topline and gentle slope to croup, well made rear angulation, hocks well let down, lovely harsh wire coat, moved soundly and true with good drive keeping his shape at all times.”

In so doing Kodi collected 1 extra point in what has, all year long, been a nail-biting back-and-forth competition for the honour of being awarded Top Show Dog of 2024. That 1 point pulled Kodi to the top of the leaderboard for the year – truly a one-in-a-lifetime accomplishment and the pinnacle of achievement for any show dog.
Still only 2 years old, and undoubtedly with many more exciting wins in his future, Kodi has been a dream come true for me as a breeder. We are incredibly grateful for all of the hard work that Jenny & David have put in throughout the year and are immensely proud of their journey of success with young Kodi.
Kodi sets breed record!
Young Belatarr Kodiak continues to amaze and thrill us with his wins, and the Hungarian Wirehared Vizsla Association Championship took things to an even higher plane this year.
The 2023 Championship show was one of the greatest highlights of our entire show career, with Kodi winning Best of Breed and his mother, our Belatarr Asia, awarded Reserve Best of Breed.
Kodi, therefore, came to this year’s show both as the reigning Champion and the current winner of the HWV Club Championship too, but he surpassed all of our hopes to collect his 6th CC and then go on to be awarded Best in Show AGAIN!
The only HWV ever to be twice awarded Best in Show at the HWVA Champ show was Kodi’s own Great-Aunt, Show Champion Belatarr Mahalia Jackson ShCM, but no dog has ever previously retained their title with back-to-back Best in Show wins in this way.

Our great thanks go to breed specialist judge Karen Richardson who allowed Kodi to make breed history, and our tremendous congratulations and gratitude to David & Jenny for taking Kodi to such great heights.
“Such an eyecatching young man with an impressive outline. He has such a balanced, proportionate & strong body. Good depth throughout with well sprung ribs, level back, firm loin, moderate rear angulation with good width of thigh. A masculine head with an intelligent eye & a great beard. Quite the showman on the move, he powered around the ring with reach & rear propulsion from his clearly visible muscular hindquarters. Dog CC & BEST IN SHOW.”

Big Win at Manchester for Kodiak.
After becoming a Show Champion at the final show on 2023, Belatarr Kodiak started off the new year in tremendous style at the first Champ show of 2024, the Manchester Championship.
Under breed specialist Chris Guest he again won Best dog, collecting his 4th CC in the process, and then went on to take Best of Breed – his first Championship BOB – earning him the privilege of representing the breed in the main Gundog ring for the first time, and all at the tender age of 22 months!
“1st CC and BOB: Belatarr Kodiak…..the standard calls for everything in moderation and this is what you got with this chap. Compact and workmanlike, yet still masculine in outlook.
Harsh, tight coat of russet. Nicely proportioned head, with expressive eyes of good colour. Clean through neck and throat, to well boned and straight forelimbs. Decent forechest, good heart and lung room. Firm topline, strong loin flowed into good quarters. Moved soundly coming and going and in profile, on good feet, to nitpick, would have liked a bit more oomph, but as always extremely well handled by his owner.”

It’s tremendously exciting to watch Kodi’s progress in the show ring and we are certain that another great year lies ahead of him, Jenny & David in ’24.
Sensational Day at the HWVA Championship!
Hosted at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern on a very hot and humid Sunday, the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Association Championship show and accompanying Open Show proved to be one of the very best and most memorable days in the history of Belatarr!
The Championship show is generally the largest gathering of the breed anywhere in the world, and this year was judged by Rachel Thompson, not just a breed expert, but one of the real doyennes of the HWV in the UK.
Fresh from winning his first CC just 2 weeks earlier and still only 13 months of age, Belatarr Kodiak (Kodi) scored a stunning win, taking 1st Junior Dog and then being named Best Dog, collecting his second CC in the process.
But that was just the start! His mother, our Belatarr Asia (Aja) was awarded 1st Limit Bitch and then took Best Bitch, winning her first ever CC. Mother and son then went head to head, with Kodi awarded Best in Show and Aja Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex.

It is rare indeed to “do the double” by scooping both CC awards at a major Champ Show and this was all the more special given the event and the judge.
Belatarr Asia
“Lovely, feminine and balanced throughout. Pleasing head with smooth ear and dark eye.Strong neck flowing into good, well-angled shoulder and upper arm. Depth of chest and good couplings. Strong rear, used to advantage on the move, covering her ground with ease. BCC, BOS, RBIS.“
Rachel Thompson
But there was even more to come!
Following the Championship was the HWVA Open show judged by Gundog expert Mike Masters and Kodi wowed us once more by winning Best Dog again! Alongside him was his uncle, Belatarr Jupiter, who was named Reserve Best Dog and then his mother, Aja, awarded Reserve Best Bitch to complete the winning trio. Finally, Kodi completed his day by scoring Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex.
BETATARR KODIAK
“Impressive young dog, couldn’t take my eyes off him, he dominated my mind whilst judging the males and I couldn’t find anything to beat him in the later classes. He has a most appealing masculine, shapely head with lively and intelligent expression, clean, slightly arched neck. Well-constructed front assembly with good depth to brisket. Moderately well sprung in ribs that extended well back to short loin, strong quarters with good width over the rear. A rich russet harsh wire jacket completed the picture. Moved sound holding a firm shape in profile, covering the ground with ease. Best Dog & RBIS“
BELATARR ASIA
“A mature bitch who appeals greatly for breed type, balance and construction throughout. I loved her head and that lively, intelligent expression. Her front has desired lay back of shoulder, return of upper arm and depth to brisket, hindquarters to match which enabled her to drive and reach covering the ground with ease holding a level topline. She also captivated my heart and pushed the (Best Bitch) Junior all the way.“
Mike Masters
Huge congratulations to Jenny and David for their stellar success with young Kodi, now just 1 win away from being a Show Champion!
