Kodiak wins at his Debut Show.
Young Belatarr Kodiak made his show debut at the age of 6 months and 1 week at the Midland Counties Championship and scored a very exciting win under breed specialist judge Keeley Newman-Jones, taking 1st Minor Puppy Dog, Best Puppy Dog and then Best Puppy, beating 11 other HWV puppies (all of whom were older and more experienced than him!) in the process.
“What a start to the day, a super class of pups. 1st Spillane’s Belatarr Kodiak 6mth, first time out and enjoying himself. So much to like about this dog, from head to toe I wrote in my notes. Presented a lovely outline, already his head was masculine with moderate breadth of skull. A lovely expression, eye and ear set. He was the best on the move and this is due to his wonderful front and rear angulation. A good length of upper arm and well-laid shoulders. This was balanced with moderate rear angulation. I liked his body proportions, especially short couplings and length of loin. Super feet. His coat is correct and will only improve over time. Everything needs to mature and his movement become tighter but he was exactly as expected a 6-month-old should be and I hope has a good future ahead of him. BPD and BPIB”

His mother, our own Belatarr Asia, was also awarded 1st Limit Bitch and, by doing so, earned her Kennel Club Stud Book Number, the 10th Belatarr to achieve this accolade, so a memorable day all around!
“A beautiful feminine bitch with many qualities. Lovely front and rear angulation, liked her stifle and second thigh. I would prefer her to have a little more depth to her chest. Well muscled in the neck and good spring to her ribs. Presented in wonderful coat and condition. Held her topline on the move and presented a balanced picture of front reach and drive. Considered for the RCC.” Keeley Newman-Jones
Big congratulations to Jenny & David – we’re very much looking forward to eagerly following young Kodi’s ongoing adventures in the show ring.
Cuba takes to the water.
What better way to keep cool on the hottest day of the year than to explore our river:

Cuba is approaching 13 weeks old and has excitedly splashed and paddled in the river before, but today she first retrieved a stick and then went for a series of full-on deep water swims, demonstrating an amazing technique right from the very first attempt!

Introducing Cuba!
We are delighted to announce that the newest addition to our Belatarr clan, and the puppy staying with us from Aja’s recent litter, is Belatarr Cuba, formerly known as Miss Purple. We will look forward to documenting her ongoing adventures!

Final week – puppy update.
Time has flown and the puppies have safely travelled to set out on their adventures with their new families; these were their final days with us at Belatarr HQ and their first day in their new homes:

Belatarr Java (Java) aka Miss Lime

Belatarr Sumatra (Willow) aka Miss Yellow

Belatarr Corsica (Roxy) AKA Miss Pink

Belatarr Kodiak (Kodi) AKA Mr Red

Week 7 Puppy Update.

Week 6 Puppy Update.

Week 4 Puppy Update.

Week 3 Puppy Update
Big changes this week as the pups’ eyesight and hearing come fully online, their walking grows stronger and more stable and they start to explore their new world. We can now finally see their rapidly developing heads properly too, so without further ado, these are their 3-week-old headshots:

And not forgetting, some action shots as the pups romp (and chew) together.

Week 2 Puppy Update.
A big week for the youngsters, with their first attempts to walk (the wobbly spider phase) starting on day 11 and Miss Purple taking the lead by opening one eye on the evening of day 12. Everyone’s eyes are just about semi-open now, (day 14) but it will be a blurry further week or so before things come into proper focus and they can finally see where they are. The past few days have also seen (or heard, at least) a variety of mini barks and sleep baby-growls and squeaks as their ears have opened and they start to practise their vocal skills.

Week 1 Puppy Update.
7 days in and both mum, Aja, and her 5 pups are all thriving. With relatively little competition for food resources, all 5 youngsters doubled their birth weight in 7 days, which is definitely not something we’ve experienced with our previous larger litters, otherwise it’s a hectic round of sleeping and digesting for the new arrivals.
