Week 6 Puppy Update.

Week 2 Puppy Update.
A big week for the youngsters, with their first attempts to walk (the wobbly spider phase) starting on day 11 and Miss Purple taking the lead by opening one eye on the evening of day 12. Everyone’s eyes are just about semi-open now, (day 14) but it will be a blurry further week or so before things come into proper focus and they can finally see where they are. The past few days have also seen (or heard, at least) a variety of mini barks and sleep baby-growls and squeaks as their ears have opened and they start to practise their vocal skills.

Puppies Arrive!
We are thrilled to be able to announce the safe arrival of our new generation of Belatarr puppies. 4 girls and 1 boy, all wriggling, chirruping and feeding vigorously! Proud mum Aja is wonderfully attentive and maternal but also very happy to resume her pre-pregnancy athletic lifestyle, now that she’s no longer carrying all that extra weight with her.
Luka wins Best in Show!
David & Jenny achieved a really stunning win with Lyra’s son, Belatarr Jupiter (Luka) at the Bedford & District Canine Society this weekend. He won Best of Breed and then took Gundog Group 1 under judge Chris Hill, before being named Best in Show by judge Jane Lilley, collecting a rather fine trophy and set of rosettes along the way! Only the second time that a Belatarr has been awarded Best in Show, Luka also becomes one of the very, very few HWV’s to ever achieve this at al all-Group show in the UK. We are thrilled and proud in equal measure.
Luka wins his 2nd CC.
Fabulous results from the Richmond Championship show this afternoon, where Lyra’s son, young Belatarr Jupiter (Luka) was awarded Best Dog & his second Challenge Certificate along with Best of Breed, also for the second time, following the same result in June at Windsor Championship.
Judge Jeff Horswell then also awarded Luka’s uncle, Belatarr Charlie Parker ShCM, the Reserve Dog CC along with Vest Veteran in Breed & Luka’s Show Champion Uncle Belatarr Hercules 1st in Open Dog too.
Many congratulations to Jenny & David on another great day with their boys – we are super proud and excited today!
Big win For Belatarr Venus.
Lyra’s puppies have been enjoying some top results this year and another big day was had by young Belatarr Venus (Iris) who had two different shows at the same venue on 24th Aug. First came the North Riding Gundog Club where she was awarded 1st in Graduate and RBOB, then the main event came next at the North of England HPR Club Show where she took 1st in Post Graduate and went Best of Breed under judge Ashleigh Frost before going on to take Reserve Best in Show under judge Leslie Forfar.
Big congratulations to Andy and Alyson for their super day!
“From an impressive line-up of BOBs, I shortlisted 4 for further consideration…. RBIS Forster’s Belatarr Venus. Hungarian Wire Haired Vizsla. A bitch with substance whilst remaining feminine. Head and expression typical of her breed. Correct reach of neck into well-laid shoulders. Big ribbed body. She stands on well-boned legs with good feet. Presented in hard condition and in good harsh wiry coat. Moved well with reach and drive.“

Billie wins her Working Gundog Certificate.
In the midst of all the exciting puppy shenanigans comes news that having broken various show records and accumulated 13 CC’s along the way, ShCh Melatarr Mahalia Jackson (Billie) has also now become the first Belatarr to be awarded the Kennel Club Working Gundog Certificate – https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/activities/field-trials-working-gundogs/new-to-field-trials-gundog-working-tests/working-gundog-certificate/
Massive congratulations to Irene on yet another milestone achievement with Billie!
Puppies: week 7
After enduring endless weeks of rain, high winds and unseasonably cold temperatures, conditions have at last returned to more normal for August and the puppies have finally been able to get out onto the grass, making life more interesting for them and much easier for us. Now fully weaned and (most, at least) with a full set of puppy teeth, they are readily tucking into their raw diet interspersed with goat’s milk and will soon be heading off to their exciting new lives in their loving new homes, so this coming week will be their final one with the whole litter together.

Puppies: week 6
Time is flying by and the puppies are looking very grown-up now, fully weaned from mum and getting stronger and more boisterous by the day. Once again, the often terrible weather has meant that they are indoors more than outdoors, but they certainly make the most of it when the sun does make an appearance.

Puppies: week 5.
The pups have been dodging torrential rain and gale-force winds throughout most of this week but we’ve still managed to get them out for at least a few hours every day and, as a result, they have quickly become immune to all of the racket from the storms raging in the trees around them.
They have also enjoyed lots of visitors and additional cuddles through the week, as well as becoming super-adept at eating solids from their feeding bowls. Now, at 5 weeks of age, they have transitioned almost entirely onto their raw food diet with mum making visits to feed only once a day, and this will drop off further over the coming days so they should be fully weaned by this time next week.
Developmental changes are more gradual this week, but a brief break in the rain (if not the wind!) did allow us to get some extra head-shots of them today:
