Mid Western Gundog Wins.

Jenny had some great results with her Belatarr boys at the Mid Western Gundog Show at the Three Counties Showground on 17th Feb. The breed was judged by Judge Peter Watson (Oakswarren) and he awarded Belatarr Jupiter (Luka) 1st in Post Graduate with his big brother Sh Ch Belatarr Hercules winning 1st in Open and Best of Breed.

Best in Show was then judged by Frank Kane and Herc was shortlisted from the huge selection of 33 Gundog BOB winners. Meanwhile, Belatarr Charlie Parker ShCM was entered into AV Veteran which was split into two big classes (with 14 dogs in his class) also under Frank Kane. He performed beautifully and won through to face the winner of the second veteran class. Again he won the showdown and, as a result, was crowned Best Veteran in Show:

Many congratulations to Jen & Charlie on an excellent win and the very fine accompanying trophy & rosette too.

LKA Completes Sensational Show Year for Belatarr!

Held on Dec 16th, LKA was the final Championship show of the year and proved to be one of the most memorable that we’ve ever attended. Presided over by judge Eileen Hughes, Sh Ch Belatarr Hercules was named Best Dog and won his 2nd CC of 2018, his 5th in total, moving him into 3rd place in the list of all-time highest-awarded HWV males!

A lovely masculine dog who moved effortlessly round the ring with reach and drive due to well-laid shoulders and good rear angulation. A harsh coat finished the picture. Correct length in body with a firm topline. Typical masculine head and tight feet. A well deserved CC.

Eileen Hughes

A fabulous result and one with which we would have been thrilled to complete what has been an amazing show year, but the bitch classes brought another thrill as Billie, Sh Ch Belatarr Mahalia Jackson ShCM, was awarded Best Bitch, collecting an astonishing 6th CC of the year and taking her total tally of Challenge Certificates to 12, making her the all-time 2nd highest awarded HWV Bitch (by a very considerable margin.)

“A beautiful mature bitch who moves so fluidly with lots of reach and drive.Attractive feminine head, correct harsh coat, good length and depth of body, an excellent example of the breed. CC & BOB.

Eileen Hughes

Brother and sister then went head to head for Best of Breed and Billie emerged victorious, earning the privilege of representing the breed in the Gundog Group Challenge – what a day!

Best Bitch and Best Dog, Billie and Herc, with very proud Dad Tim!

Midland Counties Championship.

Another superb Champ show outing for Belatarr under breed specialist Doreen Smillie-Gray at Midland Counties saw Belatarr North by Northwest awarded 1st place from a large Limit Dog class:

Best moving dog in this class, good head with a kind expression, very good topline which he holds on the move, good depth of rib. Lovely angulation and good clean front. Coat is good. Well muscled and a happy boy.

Doreen Smillie-Gray

With his big brother Sh Ch Belatarr Hercules picking up the Reserve Dog CC:

Older boy than my winner but could not be denied the RCC. He moves out with style and power, good muscle and depth, correct angulation and lovely head and expression. Another quality dog.

Doreen Smillie-Gray

and their older sister, Sh Ch Belatarr Mahalia Jackson Sh CM awarded Best Bitch, winning her 5th CC of the year and an incredible 11th in total:

Coming up to 7 years old and I have never seen her look so good. She looks stunning on the stand, very good coat. Good depth of rib and excellent angulation. Like my Dog CC is made correct so moves correctly with power and style.

National Gundog Championship

What was an extremely hot and sunny day at this year’s National Gundog Championship proved also to be a memorable one for Belatarr. Presided over by Breed specialist judge Christine Morgan, young sisters Iris (Belatarr Venus) and Dora (Belatarr Pandora) met in the ring for only the second time, with Dora joining her sister today in qualifying for Crufts, whilst their brother Luka (Belatarr Jupiter) represented their litter in Junior Dog.

Belatarr Pandora stacked in the ring.

Belatarr Venus on the move in Junior Bitch.

The highlight of the day, though, was Billie (Sh Ch Belatarr Mahalia Jackson ShCM) who won Best Bitch and was so awarded her third CC of the year and her 9th overall – an amazing achievement, matched by only 1 other bitch and two dogs in HWV breed history. We continue to be thrilled and so proud of her achievements – massive congratulations to Irene on this latest milestone for the record-breaking girl from our very first litter!

SH CH BELATARR MAHALIA JACKSON SHCM (MS I E COLLIER) I judged this lovely girl some years ago when there was only one CC on offer. On that occasion she was Best Bitch but had to settle for the Res CC as the dog was BOB. The next time I judged her was indoors when I felt that she was not as animated as she could have been. I have always thought that she was an outdoor girl and today she proved it, powering round the ring with reach and drive and holding her head high with a topline that was straight and true and perfect tail carriage. She is so feminine and noble in appearance yet has power and strength, a wonderfully balanced outline, depth, ample spring of rib and wide well muscled quarters. She is so true in front and from behind you can see the flair over her hips giving perfect balance to her ribcage. Her head is beautiful and her eyes tell you what a kind soul she is. And of course, she has an excellent wire coat and facial furnishings. It was my absolute pleasure to give her the CC at last!”

Christine Morgan
