Kodiak wins at his Debut Show.

Young Belatarr Kodiak made his show debut at the age of 6 months and 1 week at the Midland Counties Championship and scored a very exciting win under breed specialist judge Keeley Newman-Jones, taking 1st Minor Puppy Dog, Best Puppy Dog and then Best Puppy, beating 11 other HWV puppies (all of whom were older and more experienced than him!) in the process.

What a start to the day, a super class of pups. 1st Spillane’s Belatarr Kodiak 6mth, first time out and enjoying himself. So much to like about this dog, from head to toe I wrote in my notes. Presented a lovely outline, already his head was masculine with moderate breadth of skull. A lovely expression, eye and ear set. He was the best on the move and this is due to his wonderful front and rear angulation. A good length of upper arm and well-laid shoulders. This was balanced with moderate rear angulation. I liked his body proportions, especially short couplings and length of loin. Super feet. His coat is correct and will only improve over time. Everything needs to mature and his movement become tighter but he was exactly as expected a 6-month-old should be and I hope has a good future ahead of him. BPD and BPIB

His mother, our own Belatarr Asia, was also awarded 1st Limit Bitch and, by doing so, earned her Kennel Club Stud Book Number, the 10th Belatarr to achieve this accolade, so a memorable day all around!

A beautiful feminine bitch with many qualities. Lovely front and rear angulation, liked her stifle and second thigh. I would prefer her to have a little more depth to her chest. Well muscled in the neck and good spring to her ribs. Presented in wonderful coat and condition. Held her topline on the move and presented a balanced picture of front reach and drive. Considered for the RCC.” Keeley Newman-Jones

Big congratulations to Jenny & David – we’re very much looking forward to eagerly following young Kodi’s ongoing adventures in the show ring.

A huge week for Chaucer!

Young Belatarr America (Chaucer) was just 7 months old when the pandemic lockdown meant that dog showing was suspended for a long period of time. As a result, he missed his entire showing puppyhood and has only recently started getting out and about to shows as a young adult. Having just turned 3 years old in July of this year he has really come together and found his stride and Irene’s hard work and patience have been rewarded with big back-to-back Championship wins this week.

First up was the Bournemouth Championship show where judge Di Arrowsmith awarded Chaucer with his first Reserve Dog CC, earning him his Stud Book Number at the same time.

But bigger things were to come just 4 days later at the Welsh Kennel Club Championship where Chaucer went one better and came from winning 1st Limit Dog (the biggest and most competitive class of the day) to be awarded his first Best Dog CC under judge David Shields.

Chaucer, having his critique written.

Huge congratulations again go to Irene for these fantastic results and for the opening of this very exciting new chapter in both Chaucer and Belatarr’s show history!

Luka wins Best in Show!

David & Jenny achieved a really stunning win with Lyra’s son, Belatarr Jupiter (Luka) at the Bedford & District Canine Society this weekend. He won Best of Breed and then took Gundog Group 1 under judge Chris Hill, before being named Best in Show by judge Jane Lilley, collecting a rather fine trophy and set of rosettes along the way! Only the second time that a Belatarr has been awarded Best in Show, Luka also becomes one of the very, very few HWV’s to ever achieve this at al all-Group show in the UK. We are thrilled and proud in equal measure.

Big win For Belatarr Venus.

Lyra’s puppies have been enjoying some top results this year and another big day was had by young Belatarr Venus (Iris) who had two different shows at the same venue on 24th Aug. First came the North Riding Gundog Club where she was awarded 1st in Graduate and RBOB, then the main event came next at the North of England HPR Club Show where she took 1st in Post Graduate and went Best of Breed under judge Ashleigh Frost before going on to take Reserve Best in Show under judge Leslie Forfar.

Big congratulations to Andy and Alyson for their super day!

From an impressive line-up of BOBs, I shortlisted 4 for further consideration…. RBIS Forster’s Belatarr Venus. Hungarian Wire Haired Vizsla. A bitch with substance whilst remaining feminine. Head and expression typical of her breed. Correct reach of neck into well-laid shoulders. Big ribbed body. She stands on well-boned legs with good feet. Presented in hard condition and in good harsh wiry coat. Moved well with reach and drive.

Triple wins at Windsor.

A fabulous day for Jenny & David’s Belatarr boys at the Windsor Championship Show, where long-time breed specialist judge Rob McMaster awarded first places to Belatarr Charlie Parker ShCM (Veteran), Belatarr Jupiter (Post Graduate Dog) & Sh Ch Belatarr Hercules (Open Dog).

All three then went head to head amongst the other class winners in the line-up Best Dog, and it was Lyra’s son, young Belatarr Jupiter (Luka) who beat his two uncles to be awarded Best Dog alog with his very first Challenge Certificate, this coming after he picked up his first Reserve CC and earned his Kennel Club Stud Book Number just 2 months ago at the WELKS Championship. Uncle Hercules was then awarded the Reserve Dog CC, with Uncle Charlie completing the set as Best Veteran in Breed.

But even better was to come when Luka went on to be awarded his first Champ Show Best of Breed and the privilege of representing the breed in the Gundog Group. Luka has so far been unbeaten in his Champ show classes throughout the whole year and this was a thrilling new high for his show career. Huge congratulations to Jenny & David!

Mid Western Gundog Wins.

Jenny had some great results with her Belatarr boys at the Mid Western Gundog Show at the Three Counties Showground on 17th Feb. The breed was judged by Judge Peter Watson (Oakswarren) and he awarded Belatarr Jupiter (Luka) 1st in Post Graduate with his big brother Sh Ch Belatarr Hercules winning 1st in Open and Best of Breed.

Best in Show was then judged by Frank Kane and Herc was shortlisted from the huge selection of 33 Gundog BOB winners. Meanwhile, Belatarr Charlie Parker ShCM was entered into AV Veteran which was split into two big classes (with 14 dogs in his class) also under Frank Kane. He performed beautifully and won through to face the winner of the second veteran class. Again he won the showdown and, as a result, was crowned Best Veteran in Show:

Many congratulations to Jen & Charlie on an excellent win and the very fine accompanying trophy & rosette too.

Belatarr wins: *TOP HWV KENNEL*TOP STUD DOG*TOP BROOD BITCH*

The incredible ending to the 2018 show year secured us sufficient points to be awarded the OurDogs UK’s Top Breeder/Kennel for 2018.

This is the THIRD time that we have been privileged to win this incredibly prestigious award, having also achieved the win for 2014 and 2016. In so doing Belatarr becomes the first HWV kennel ever to be named Top UK Breeder for a third time.

At the same time our boy, Mingus, (Morehay Lars of Belatarr ShCM) was awarded Top HWV Stud Dog (OurDogs), this being the third time that Mingus has achieved this award, following similar wins in 2014 and 2016. Given that he has only ever sired two litters, this is a truly astonishing achievement and one unmatched by any other HWV dog.

Last, but most definitely not least, our Tarndair Phoenix of Belatarr was awarded Top HWV Brood Bitch, also for the third time, and again, this is a record unmatched by another HWV.

Having tragically lost Phoenix earlier in 2018 this last award was particularly poignant and emotional and serves as an incredible tribute to our beautiful girl and the legacy that she left us all.

None of these wins would have been even remotely possible without the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of Irene and Jenny whose combined total of 8 Challenge Certificates for 2018 secured Belatarr the necessary points for all of the awards. A heartfelt thank you to you both 🙂

Phoenix, in her watery element.
