More Puppy Group Placings!

Although still only 6 months old, the new Belatarr generation are certainly making their mark out in the show rings already.

Hot on the heels of his two PG4 placings, Belatarr Jupiter (Luka) went two better at his next outing, the Birmingham & District Gundog & Terrier Club Open, where HPR specialist judge Maxine Munday awarded his 1st in HWV Puppy Class followed by Best Puppy in Breed. The subsequent Puppy Group was judged by Kathy Gorman and she awarded him a fantastic Group 2 Placing, with the critique:

This was an outstanding group of puppies. 2. Spillane’s Belatarr Jupiter. HWV. A lovely example of the breed, very well constructed and moved soundly with drive.

Kathy Gorman

Not to be outdone by her brother, Luka’s litter-sister Belatarr Pandora (Dora) also scored a great result at Blackwood & District Canine Society, where Judge Sheila Appleby awarded her 1st in AVNSC Graduate, Best AVNSC Puppy and then Puppy Group 4. This was a terrific achievement for Dora and Zoe as together they are learning how to show for the first time ever. Their critiques from the show were a real testament to all of their hard work:

“1. 7-month puppy bitch, with lovely head, soft expressive hazel eyes, well-balanced overall with good proportions. In good coat, moved effortlessly, covering the ground well. Two lovely puppies but preferred movement of one.”

Group 4: Very pretty bitch puppy with sweetest of expressions, balanced in proportions, outgoing on the move, nicely handled.”

Puppies – week 2.

Our new arrivals are now 2 weeks old and the constant rounds of feeding and snoozing have resulted in them roughly tripling their birth weights and generally rolling around contentedly with barrel-like tummies. The pups started lifting themselves up onto their feet this week and by today are just about able to walk (and clamber!) a short distance. At the same time four pups have now opened their eyes – Mis Fawn started the trend 2 days ago, Miss Yellow and Mr Blue joined her yesterday and Miss Orange has just taken her first glimpse of the world today.

RANDOM SHOTS OF CUTENESS

Puppies – Week 1.

It’s been a hectic round of feeding and sleeping…and feeding and sleeping…for the 12 new Belatarr arrivals, and now, at the heady age of 1 week, they are all close to doubling their birth weights and are fighting fit and healthy little squeaking ginger sausages.

The whole gang together.

As is our tradition, we will be posting weekly head-shots of each of the puppies and, in alphabetic order, these are the first entries into their portrait galleries:

…and then there were Twelve!

We are absolutely thrilled to be able to announce the safe arrival of Lyra’s litter of 12 beautiful puppies, 7 girls and 5 boys who joined us in the early hours of Tuesday, 4th April. Lyra is, as expected, proving to be the most devoted mother imaginable, but still hasn’t lost her own sense of playfulness and joy – just 24hrs after giving birth she was once again excitedly running around with big sticks in the river on a quick break from mothering duties.

As with all of our previous litters the large number of puppies necessitates splitting them into two teams and letting one team feed whilst the other snoozes together under the heat lamp. The teams are then switched round every 90 mins or so, night and day, ensuring that everyone gets an even amount of milk, so much work and disrupted sleep lies ahead!

First born, newly arrived Mr Red tucks into his first meal.

Half-way home – the first 6 have arrived and will go on to become team 1.

and all twelve are safely with us.

Forthcoming Litter (Belatarr: the Next Generation)

It is with huge excitement that we are now able to announce the expected arrival of our next generation of Belatarr puppies:

Our beloved Belatarr Lyra (litter sister to Show Champion Belatarr Hercules and full sister to Show Champion Belatarr Mahalia Jackson ShCM) has been confirmed in whelp to HJCh Aldozovolgyi-Drotos Dabas for Morganna.

Dabas (courtesy of Krisztina Varga)

This is a very long-awaited and carefully planned union that we hope will build upon the strengths that we have established with our hugely successful Phoenix/Mingus litters. With her pretty, feminine head, excellent, balanced angulation and deep red, harsh wire coat with profuse facial furnishings, Lyra typifies the Belatarr HWV. Whilst she didn’t enjoy the show ring she is the most loving and joyful girl you could ever wish for and has already proven to be hugely maternal (she almost co-parented her mother’s last litter!) so we are sure that motherhood will truly allow her to come into her own.

Dad-to-be Dabas brings an exciting combination of great substance in a compact frame coupled with a super, tight, harsh coat along with supplying the genes of his many superb ancestors. He also has the sweetest and most gentle nature you could possibly wish for, and has already sired several of the most promising youngsters in the UK, so it is with great anticipation that we await the arrival of this, our fourth litter, due at the start of April.
